Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering Department started functioning from the Academic Year 2010. Present intake in First Year is 60 Students. The Department has well experienced and qualified Faculty Members having PhD in various specializations such as Transportation Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Water Resources Engineering, etc. The department has excellent laboratory facilities to meet the requirements of under graduate course in Civil Engineering. Our department has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with leading companies. Students grabbed opportunities for higher studies abroad in renowned institutions. Faculty published quality papers with high impact factor in various reputed journals.

Based on candidates performance in JEE Mains, on All India Level.
12th Pass out and Aggregate of 45% in PCM for General Category and 40% for SC/ST/OBC(excluding creamy layer) Candidate.

Department of civil engineering has following facilities:

The Department has nine laboratories with computing facility for faculty, staff and students. The laboratories have required equipment and accessories to conduct laboratory classes as per prescribed syllabi. Research and consultancy activities have been conducted with advanced equipment.

Surveying Lab

The Surveying Lab consists state-of-the-art equipment for performing various engineering measurements. The Surveying Laboratory is well equipped with the instruments and tools that students use throughout the surveying course. Surveying Laboratory contains measuring instruments for distance, vertical and horizontal angles, and elevation. Students gain proficiency over diversify techniques for gathering field data with conventional, modern and advanced instruments in lab sessions. The available instrument in the lab includes two total station instruments, hand-held and mapping grade GPS units, Stereo-plotters, Digital Theodolites, Vernier Theodolites, Dumpy levels, Prismatic and Surveyor Compass units, Plane table with Accessories etc. It is very spacious that can accommodate more than 25 students to get demonstrated with sophisticated facilities and well qualified trained professionals in each session.


Fluid Mechanics Lab

The objective of this laboratory is to determine the various parameters related to fluid flow in pipes and in open channels. At present it is equipped with hydraulic benches & various stand-alone equipment to carry out experiments like determination of meta centric height of a floating vessel, verification of the Bernoulli’s energy equation, study of transition from laminar to turbulent flow, determination of velocity profile for pipeline flow, determination of coefficient of discharge for obstruction flow meter (venturi meter /orifice meter), determination of discharge coefficient for various notches, determination of hydraulic coefficients for flow through an orifice.


Transportation Engineering Lab

The laboratory of transportation engineering in the civil department is well equipped with all the required instruments and equipment that are helpful in the overall understanding and practical knowledge of a student. We have all the instruments such as Marshall Stability and we are proud that we are one of the very few colleges that provide this facility. Apart from this we also have other instruments such as CBR, Los angles abrasion instrument, etc. we believe in the fact that only bookish knowledge is not enough for the overall understanding of our students So our pedagogy includes every measure that impacts practical knowledge and carries out all the tests required for complete understanding of the subject.


Concrete Technology Lab

The testing and inspection of concrete and concrete aggregates are important elements in obtaining quality construction. The laboratory allows students test to assess the various fresh and hardened concrete properties that may affect the performance of concrete members. There many apparatuses and machines available at the concrete technology lab like Sieve Shaker, Compressive testing machine, Slump Cone Testing apparatus, Flexure Testing Machine, Compaction Factor Apparatus, Heat of Hydration apparatus, Permeability apparatus etc.


Theory of Structures Lab

The Structural Engineering Laboratory at Oriental college of Technology, Bhopal serves a wide spectrum of activities covering those related to teaching, research, development, and consultancy. The primary activities include experimental studies on model/prototype of structural elements and assemblies under various static and dynamic loading conditions. With the available test area, state-of-the-art load/displacement-controlled equipment for load application, precision instrumentation, , the laboratory represents a unique facility for large and full scale investigation of the load-deformation behaviour of structures including their post-peak strength and deformability up to the failure.


Environmental Engineering Lab

The Environmental Engineering laboratory practical provides good insight into different experimental methods relevant to Environmental Engineering. The Environmental Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Civil Engineering provides good testing, teaching and research facilities. The laboratory contains modern analytical instruments and facilities to carry out simple to sophisticated experiments i. e. the testing of Physio-chemical and Biological parameters for Water and Wastewater, Air pollutants testing in stack and environment etc. The Laboratory has sophisticated equipment to analyse pollution parameters in water and waste water, soil and air. Experiments on testing the Quality of water such as pH, Turbidity, Conductivity meter, Hardness, Chlorides, Sulphate Alkalinity etc can be performed in the lab. Experiment on ambient air pollution parameter such as SOx , NOx and SPM, and noise pollution measurement are also performed in this lab Experiments on waste water also performed in this lab in order to recover the condition of wastewater to reuse it for various purposes such as gardening, and for agricultural purpose. UG Students, PG Students and Research scholars regularly utilizing this lab. Research scholars utilizing various instruments for their research purpose in utmost level.


Geotech Lab

This state-of-the-art laboratory is well equipped with most of the automatic and digitalised equipment’s to determine the Index and Engineering properties of soil. All the facilities are utilising by the undergraduate students which is applied in the field of geotechnical engineering. The experiments in this laboratory enable the students to gather basic and detailed knowledge about the soil Properties and its behaviour which forms the fundamental blocks of any foundation system.


Software Lab

The objective of this Lab is to teach users the basic commands and tools necessary for professional 2D drawing, design and drafting using AutoCAD & Load Analysis using Staad Pro. After completing this course users will be able to use AutoCAD for daily working process.


Strength of Material Lab

Strength of material laboratory deals with how solid bodies react when subjected to various types of loading. This laboratory provides the basic knowledge of strength of materials and here, the students can perform different tests on different materials. Experiments are performed to measure the properties of the materials such as impact strength, tensile strength, compressive strength, hardness, etc., The laboratory is equipped with Servo Controlled Universal Testing Machine, Servo Controlled Compression Testing Machine, Digital Hardness Testing Machine, Digital Rebound Hammer etc.

Site Visit at Bhopal Metro Project

Department of Civil Engineering Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal Organized a one-day Industrial site visit to "Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Bhopal" on 26/04/2022. Students visited the Bhopal Metro Rail Project located at Saket Nagar, Bhopal. They gained the practical knowledge of construction of Metro Rail Elevated Bridges. Students were also briefed about the whole metro rail project at MPMRCL office, Bhopal by Metro Rail Project Engineers.


Alumni Talk

Department of Civil Engineering, Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal organized an Alumni Talk on 08/04/2022 on the topic "Preparation for Job Interviews" by our Alumnus Mr. Md Atif, Structural Engineer, Allone Infra Pvt Ltd. Atif shared his interview experience of various companies and told students to a practical knowledge of site work.


Visit to Sewage Treatment Plant

On 05/04/2022, Civil Department students visited ‘Shirin Sewage Treatment Plant, Bhopal. They gained the practical knowledge of how water is treated, how water flows from various stages to get purified and how analysis of water is done in laboratory. The visit was quite helpful for the students to get the practical knowledge regarding the functioning and process of wastewater treatment plant, and learnt how it can be used for irrigation purpose in public gardens and various agricultural fields.


Expert Lecture

Department of Civil Engineering Oriental College of Technology Bhopal organized an Expert Lecture on soil stabilization on 28/03/2022. Students learnt about the practical applications of soil stabilization, various methods of soil stabilization, advantages and disadvantages of soil improvement methods, in the session.


Expert Lecture

On 16/03/2022, Computer Science and Civil Engineering Departments under Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) Club, Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal organized an Expert Lecture on How to kick start your Career in AI and ML. The objective of this event was to develop an understanding of the students and faculties that how AIML applications is used to analyze the root cause of various consumer and business issues to solve them efficiently.


Site Visit at Regional Science centre

On 15th March 2022, our students visited Regional Science Centre, Bhopal. The main aim of the visit was to know students about the importance of energy, science and technology, so that they can figure out what they want to do in future if they were to choose these as career options. The visit made aware about the fact that technology is making better place for us and how things happen around us. This visit was jointly organised by EEES Faculty taking in Dept. of CE along with Sci-Fi Club of Oriental College of Technology.


Value Added Course

Department of Civil Engineering Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal organised One Week Value Added Course on "REVIT" from 28/02/2022 to 05/03/2022. The resource person was Mr. Sujoy Shukla, Assistant Manager, SoftCAD Automation, Bhopal. This one-week workshop was very useful for students to learn about construction and design of buildings by using REVIT software.


Alumni Talk

Department of Civil Engineering, Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal organized an Alumni Talk on 26/02/2022 on the topic "Demystifying and preparing for Job Interview" by Alumnus Mr. Dik Kumar Tiwari, Assistant System Engineer, Tata Consultancy Services. Mr Dik Kumar informed the problems he faced in outside world and how he achieved the goal. He motivated the students to prepare for software industry.


SRIJAN 2020

SRIJAN 2020 “Civil Innovative Model Competition” Zonal Level was successfully organized by Civil Engineering Department at OCT, Bhopal on date 05/03/2020. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Kirti Chandraul and Mr. Dharmendra Singh Dangi of Civil Engineering Department. The selected team will be qualified for the second round in Last week of March at Bhopal.


Site Visit at Bhimbetka Shelters

Department of Civil Engineering Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal organized a Geological site visit on 20/02/2020. The students of Civil 4th sem visited World Heritage Bhimbetka Rock Shelter. The objective of this visit is to give knowledge about rock shelters and caves of Bhimbetka. It has a large number of pre historic cave paintings corresponding to the Indian Mesolithic age, that provide the glimpse of the cultural and life of that time. Students learnt many things About various types and formation of rocks, faults and folds.


SWACHHATA PAKHWADA 2020

A Village visit for Swachhata Pakhwada 2020 has organized by Department of Civil Engineering, Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal on 31/01/2020. In this whole Swachhata Pakhwada many activities were organized such as speeches, plantations, talk show , poster exhibition, village activity etc. Students took a lot of interest in this programme and also awakened others to cleanness.


Visit to Water Treatment Plant

A visit for Water Treatment Plant has organized by Department of Civil Engineering, Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal on 24/01/2020.Our main purpose for this visit was to give the practical knowledge about how raw water is treated and how water is distributed in different Areas. By this visit students can be familiar with industrial environment and get knowledge of different units of water treatment plant. The visit was coordinated by Mr. Devesh Singh Tomar and Mr. Parag Thakur of Civil Engineering Department.
