Basic Science Department is devoted to foster the fundamental principles and understanding of different subjects to enhance the students’ basic knowledge of Engineering. The objective of the department is to provide value-based education to the budding scientists and engineers. The Department comprises of different subjects of study namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English. Well-experienced and highly qualified faculty members of the department have made consistent and strenuous efforts to improve the students learning, research and development processes. Besides academics the Department is actively involved in the development of students’ personality, communication and soft skills to boost them in the modern and globally competitive environment.
There are well equipped laboratories for the practical of Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry and Communication Skills, where students learn subject through practical experience, with the help of advance equipments, apparatus and software. The Department has always been on a high growth path industry oriented outlook for the students with the current trends. It also encourages students to take up challenging projects and internships at the National and International level in order to fine-tune their technical skills.
To become a world class professional in the field of engineering through quality education, knowledge, research and skill development for solving complex problems of engineering physics, engineering chemistry, engineering mathematics and communicative English.

An educational visit was organized for the first year B.Tech CSE-A branch students of Oriental College of Technology to Regional Science Center on 29th February 2020. The students got a chance to see various science experiments based on mechanics, optics, thermodynamics, etc. The objective was to inspire the students in using the knowledge for doing projects in the future. Prof. Pushpraj Gupta and Prof. Asha Gaur accompanied 45 students. Director OCT, Dr. K K Dwivedi congratulated the co-ordinators and motivated them to organize such visits in the future.
An educational visit was organized by Oriental College of Technology for first year EC students on 22nd February 2020 to Bhopal Smart City Model. The purpose of this visit was to familiarize the students with the Bhopal Smart City Model. The students also got a chance to enhance their knowledge about startups at B- Nest Startup Incubation Center. This will help them in doing their projects in higher classes. 50 students were accompanied by Prof. Pushparaj Gupta and Dr. Shailja Pandit. Director, OCT Dr. K. K. Dwivedi congratulated the faculty co-ordinators and motivated them to organize such visits in the future.
An industrial visit was organized for the students of 1st year B.Tech Mechanical & Civil branch of Oriental College of Technology to United Engineering, Govindpura on 15th February 2020. It was a great experience as they got exposure to manufacturing of heavy machinery & fabrication, steel bridge girders, fabricated assemblies for HT/LT motors etc. This visit helped in enhancing the technical knowledge of the students. Prof Kiran Gupta and Prof Kamlesh Sahu accompanied the 37 students.
A workshop was organized by CII-YI Yuva Chapter, Bhopal in co-operation with Basic Science Department, Oriental College of Technology on 8th February 2020 for CII-YI students on the topic, "Campus to Corporate". Ms. Shweta Kataria conducted the expert lecture. The students got an insight into the future of working in a corporate world.
On 6th February 2020, 55 students of the IT-B Basic Sciences Department went for an industrial visit to CRISP. It was an uplifting experience for each of them as they got real-time exposure to deal with machinery. The visit to CRISP gave them an overview of how to develop technical skills to succeed in the technical field. The students are required to deal with new technologies in today's techno-savvy world. The students visualized a glimpse of mechanization and telecommunication. The advent of such collaboration would spark opulence that perks to the peak.
Basic Science Department of Oriental College of Technology organized an Educational visit to Regional Science Centre for IT A Second-semester students on 25th January 2020. The Regional Science Centre, Bhopal (RSCB) is located in the Shyamla Hills. The students got exposure to various science experiments based on mechanics, optics and thermodynamics. Prof. Pushparaj Gupta and Dr.Shilpa Kapoor accompanied total 50 students.
The Basic Science department of OCT organized an educational visit to Shaurya Smarak for the CSE B students on 13th January 2020. Prof. Kamlesh Sahu and Prof. Amar Jain accompanied 44 students. Shaurya Smarak is a war memorial established by the government of Madhya Pradesh and is situated at Arera hills. It is sprawled over an area of 12 acres. It has interesting architectural installations depicting the sacrifices of the soldiers. There is a 62 feet high sculpture signifying the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The objective was to make students aware of struggles and seasoned life of armed forces, many students got the inspiration to join the forces.
The Basic Science department of Oriental College of Technology participated in the education fair held at Model Higher Secondary School, Bhopal on 11th January. Dr. Sonendra Gupta (HOD) and Dr. Shivali Atre interacted with more than 600 students who were very keen to know about the different career options and the tricks for IIT-JEE Maths. The Orientalites got an opportunity to interact with Cabinet Minister for Law and Legal Affairs, Shri. P C Sharma.
ISTE Student Chapter of Oriental College of Technology organized a seminar under the guidance of faculty advisor Dr. Sonendra Gupta on 8th February 2020 for students of II semester on the topic "Digital Marketing as a career". Mr. Yash Sharma, Co-founder and Ritesh Jain of Digital High Line conducted the seminar. The students got an exposure to digital marketing as a career.
Oriental College of Technology hosted a Zonal level Quiz Competition CHIMERA-X, which was organized by the Students’ Chapter of ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education) of the College and their counterpart from MANIT was the co-organizer. Conducted in two rounds including the Audio-Visual quiz, this event gave spark to the bright minds to showcase their intelligence in all dimensions like technical and current affairs. Around 120 students from different colleges like LNCT, TIT, SIRT, RGPV, IISER, Bansal, and Trinity participated in the competition. Biplav Agarwal and Siddhant Shetty from IISER were declared the zonal winners and runners-up were Tameeshem Pandya and Sandarv Singh from UIT RGPV. The event organized by faculty Advisor of ISTE Student Chapter Dr. Sonendra Gupta and team. Appreciating the ISTE Student Chapters of Oriental and MANIT, the Director OCT Dr. K.K Dwivedi and Asst Director Dr. Netra Pal Singh congratulated the winners, hoping for a long-term, fruitful association between the students of premier institutes.

Students got to stand on a platform where they could judge their technical knowledge and general awareness. This quiz gave an idea to the students about their technical, competitive and promoting skills. Having a wide participation from around 250 students from about 10 engineering colleges, Mr Ashwin R. and Mr Rishikesh K were declared as zonal winner, getting an attractive prize, also qualifying for the final round. Appreciating the ISTE Student Chapters of Oriental and MANIT, the Oriental Chairman Shri Praveen Thakral and CEO Shri RK Sahni congratulated the winners, hoping for a long-term, fruitful association between the students of premier institutes.
The Basic Science Department of Oriental College of Technology inaugurated ISTE student Chapter on 5th October 2018. In the Chapter 251 students are enrolled of all branches. The Program was enlightened by the presence of Dr. Prashant Baredar, Faculty advisor ISTE, MANIT, Bhopal, Chief Guest, Dr. Sabha Kant Dwivedi, IEHE, Bhopal, Guest of Speaker and Ms. Neeraj Ghai Madam, Chairperson, OCT and Dr. Sonendra Gupta, Faculty Advisor ISTE, Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal. The Students were encouraged by the golden words poured by our Chief Guest Dr. Prashant Baredar and also informed about the importance of ISTE membership. Dr. Sabhakant Dwivedi sir gave the expert lecture and explained “Laplace Transform and their Applications”. At the end of the event, Chairperson, OCT, Mrs. Neeraj Ghai Madam, presented Memento to the Guests.
